Trackpoint - Durability and Settings

#1 Post by ED! » Sun Jun 06, 2004 9:02 pm

Question is pretty plain. I'm wondering how durable the Trackpoint is, but I see that the more pressure you put on it the faster it goes, so I'm not too worried about not having the touchpad, but I dont want to break the thing.

Also I remember going into Control Panel and being able to mess with Track Point settings but not I cant find it again even if I go into MOUSE, can I know I set the track point to respond to my touch to serve as a "click" but I've lost that and cant find it again.

TrackPoints are pretty durable IMO. I've put the TrackPoint on my T40 through pretty heavy use for over a year and have had 0 problems with it.

The technology had been in use for more than a decade, so I imagine most of the problems have been worked out.

Never had problem with TrackPoint. Even the TrackPoints of my legacy ThinkPads work perfectly. The only thing you have to buy is TrackPoint caps, but that's just a few bucks.

Where can I get these caps - do they sell them in normal stores (like FRYS)?

And does anyone know where I can access those trackpoint settings?

From Bill, 6 for $15 (shipping included), or ibm.com.

Go to Control Panel and look for mouse. Everything should be there. If not, get the utility from here.

Start, Settings, Control Panel, Mouse. You should see a Trackpoint tab on the property sheet.

You can also get there from ThinkPad Configuration, TrackPoint.

Either way, once you're there, check off "Show TrackPoint icon on the system tray."

I've had 3 Thinkpads and the trackpoint always outlasts the usefulness of the machine.
