T43p 2668G7U on eBay, soo tempted to Buy!

#1 Post by arwuah » Fri Jan 28, 2005 10:09 pm

Hello Folks,

I am looking and extremely tempted to buy a T43p 2668G7U ThinkPad off eBay. This item is described as brand new and never used. The price I feel is fair for this type of model. I know IBM will probably sell this same model for twice of what it is listed on the following eBay page. Here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... RK:MEWA:IT

Is this item legit? What do you think? and has anyone every bought from this ebayer?

I checked the tabook and it has everything I want and more and I expect it to last a long while. I was originally going to purchase a t42p 2373-kxu, but I figured why not just get the latest model? This will be my very first thinkpad if I purchase.

:: I feel excited just looking at the description of this t43p :) ::

All comments are welcomed. Thanks.

Aren't T43's slated to start shipping in a month or two? How'd this guy get his/her hands on it?

Um it says it's a preorder not scheduled to ship until after April 1st.

Read the fine print. He says it's a pre-order. Will not ship until after April 1st. :(

It's preorder. It will be a while before your money will yeild a return on that laptop. It'd wait until February when the T43 is availible, that might actually be easier and faster.

That's MSRP. If you order from Bill, the EPP program, shareholder's discount, or through a credit card promotion you'll get a discount off MSRP. Also, all the new T43 and T43p models are now listed at PC Connection.

lol, I don't think so. the video card sucks too, what's the difference between this and a 14" T42P? which you can get for around $2500, did you read any reviews of Sonoma systems, the 533Mhz FSB provides virtually a tidy increase in performance, Sonoma disappoints me, go get a T42P, save some money for Yonah!
to me T43 not worth buying because:
*14" still doesn't come with FLEXVIEW
*Sonoma sucks, provides only a minimal perofrmance improvement
*no improvement in terms of form factor, T42 is still as thin& light
*I don't want to pay extra for a biometrical reader
*PCIe is still a new thing, several design issue impovements are possible, plus what are you using your T43 for again? playing games? lol, get a desktop then
T43 is good because:
you can buy a high performance/price T42!!

I would have to agree on this one. I don't think the Sonoma does not increase performance significantly to justify the significant increase in cost. Also the battery life on Sonoma systems is significantly reduced. Unless you have to have the latest model, I would rather wait for faster Sonoma processors or buy T42s, which the prices are being slashed quite a bit.

lol. I appreciate the feedback from everyone. I would have definitely made a fool out of myself for acting too quick on that eBay listing. I thank you all for your feedback.

Bill, if I send you a $200 deposit then another $3700 I would feel like a bigger fool if the MSRP is 3779 :) I thought you had good deals?

I might as well just settle for a t42p 2373kxu for now until I get my money straight. I will mainly be using my laptop to dual boot winxp and freebsd for windows programming (.NET stuff) and unix programming respectively. I just wanted the latest and the greatest, but reality is a :P! Bill, do you give college discounts :?:

I'm sure Bill meant $200 deposit, then $3500 when the unit is ready for shipping.

The X600 makes me excitied. At least much better than an X300 on a T43P configure.
I guess there will be a noticeable improvement if a SATA harddisk is equiped.
Still dreaming for that
