Best LCD eplacement for T40p FireGL

#1 Post by megascribe » Mon Apr 20, 2009 3:52 pm

I just upgraded my old T40 with a T40p FireGL motherboard (2373g1u), a 1.7 Dothan CPU, and 1gig of memory. It's back together and running great, however I'm not getting the full bang from my graphics chip because the LCD has not yet been upgraded to SXGA+. I see a lot of LCD's on Ebay that would work, but after all the work I but into it I'd like to get something that would really make the graphics shine. My question is what other 14.1 LCD's from another make of laptop will work in my T40? Would a LCD from a Dell or some other make give me better performance, or am I looking for trouble?

LCDs are mostly identical when the size and resolution are the same.
Difference could be the contrast (200:1, 175:1 etc.), the light intensity (150nit, 175nit etc.), maybe a glossy or matte finish.
The main differences are however the positions of where the LCD cable is inserted, and the pin-layout.
You can buy standard LCD cable converters, (e.g. from 30-pin to 20-pin, or from 25mm to 22mm, etc.) so there must be quite a few compatible screens out there (that we don't know off yet)!

AFAIK the Dell D500, D600 and D610 series SXGA+ 14.1" screen (Samsung P/N LTN141P4-L01) is pin-compatible with the IBM T4x SXGA+ 14.1" screen (Samsung P/N LTN141P4-L02).
I have one of those Dell screens sitting here, waiting for my ordered T4x SGXA+ LCD-cable to try it out.

I tried that Dell panel a while back and it blew a fuse either in the panel or the MB.

What machine did you try it on, T40/41/42/43, R50/51/52?
And did that mobo have discrete (ATI) or integrated (Intel) graphics?
