Any simple way to do this

#1 Post by rdc1534 » Thu Apr 23, 2009 4:23 pm

My T40 with windows XP Pro started reporting possible counterfeit windows and went from bad to worse. Tried my recover disks which reformatted but would get part way through about 53% and would say error and continue no further. In desperation took to local repair shop. They reloaded windows (could not get recovery disks to work)and its now working but I have none of the IBM things such as green bar on screen for volume and % battery charge. Have reloaded hot key and power mgt and video driver from Lenovo but still not working. Any simple way to get the IBM "stuff" back without messing up the working os?
Thanks

Try making a copy of your recovery CDs on a different computer. I've had a similar problem before (combination of marginal disks and a marginal drive).

To be clear, have you followed the entire procedure for downloading, extracting and installing the Thinkpad software? Software downloads need to be executed since they're an .EXE file. That creates folder(s) (disk directories) on your hard drive (i.e., extracts them), where you then go and execute another program (typically, SETUP.EXE) to do the actual software install.

"Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management Features", should be what you need for that:
