T43p will not turn on
So here's my problem, and from what I've researched I think its a motherboard problem but I figured I would check with anyone to see if my hunch wads correct. Sometimes when I turn my computer off after running on either AC or battery (I've been afraid to run on battery recently as that is when the problem started occurring) , the next time I try to turn my computer on I'll press the power switch and it basically kills the computer. The Battery LED indicator will turn off and the computer won't turn on at all. This seems to be occurring more and more frequently. The only way that I've found to fix this problem is unplug the AC and remove the battery, then reinsert the battery and plug in the AC, wait for the Battery LED indicator to turn on again and then try the power button. What I've found is the laptop will finally turn on after doing this procedure a random number of times. Sometimes I'll have to do it an upwards of 40-50x and sometimes it will turn on with no problems at all. In the times where I have to try this multiple times, I found that if I remove the keyboard and blast everything with an Air duster, when I assemble everything back together it seems to be turning on the next time. I just recently replaced my CMOS battery hoping to fix this problem but all it did was fix my system time problem. As I've said before, there's not really a pattern or cause I can see to why this is happening since it's kind of a toss up to whether or not my computer will turn on every time I hit the power button. Am I correct in saying this is a motherboard problem aka I'm SOL or is it something with the battery or something I haven't thought of yet?

Hi and welcome to the forums. I'm sorry that you've had to visit here in such circumstances - if there's anywhere that can help you it'll be here.
The phrases which stick in my mind are
Another way of checking this out is to use the on/off button to turn the TP on and to then immediately remove the keyboard connector so the button's 'disabled'.
To turn the TP off plug the connector in again and it may then switch off by itself if the button's very stuck down.

Appreciate it's a bit of an off-the-wall suggestion, but check the on/off button comes fully back up once you've pressed it down. The button on the T30 I'm writing this with is so sticky, that the only way I can switch it on without it going off a few seconds later is to use a port replicator!...if I remove the keyboard and blast everything with an Air duster, when I assemble everything back together it seems to be turning on the next time.

Re: T43p will not turn on
I have a T40 and it was working fine. This morning when I pressed it on and it shut off right away. Tried to remove the battery & only used AC. It just shut off right away.
So I was very disappointed and didn't know what to do. After few hours, then I saw one spare broken T41 without keyboard. So I switched the cpu and the T40 worked again and came back to life. But that dead cpu was working on T41. So it might be the socket issue.
Wow, it is working very well without any problem. Shut off & on many times. Perfect.
