Power options on T42 - fan may become annoying

#1 Post by syhead » Sun Jan 30, 2005 12:24 pm

I noticed that if I select "High System Performance", from IBM's battery gauge, the fan becomes noisy and spins even when the computer is at 1% processor usage. What do you think of it?

The only way to fix this is going to Windows' power management and select "Thinkpad default". The fan becoms more silent, but still, it spins all the time.

I would put it in adaptve mode.
That way yor fan will only spin at high speed when you are doing intense processing work.
I personally do not notice performance discrepancy in adaptive mode. Also my laptop runs cooler in adaptive mode as well.

thanks, but I couldn't find a power scheme called "adaptive" or anythink similar. I tried IBM's power managemnt and Windows's.

edit:
ok, I found it. THis option is available when I try to set up a new power scheme. Let's see what happens.

I also searched the forum and I think this post is useless. There are many old posts discussing this. Sorry for not looking fo it before posting.

Just create a new "Power Scheme" and customize like you want. that is where you will find the option of changing the "Cpu Speed" to adaptative. Don't forget to also customize it for "AC Power Settings".
