T21 Help. My CPU died and I need to replace it

#1 Post by PGA2B » Sun Jan 30, 2005 7:07 pm

I have a T21 2647-47U with a SL4GT Chip currently and want to know if I can replace it with a 1Ghz chip? If so which chip. I am thinking a SL53S? or SL58S? Am I correct? :?:

I may be wrong, but I don't believe the speed-step allows any more than 900mhz with your computer. I've seen a bunch of 700mhz on eBay for cheap....may find some a bit faster too.

Hi David,

I finally got an account here. :D

Anyways... The board will handle a 1Ghz. But- They're hard to find & expensive. The 900s go on eBay for about $40.

Pick up a T22 fan while you're at it.

Keep in mind your T21 is not designed for that chip- in the T22s they used a slightly different base that allowed for a little more cooling. I use a 900Mhz mpga2 in one of my T20s w/ a T22 fan w/ no issues tho.

I have a 2647-CCG and have just done this! From previous posts in this forum I was looking for a Micro-PGA2 and so purchased the 1GHz SL5TF. On opening up my machine it turned out there was a 495 pin PPGA 800MHz in it so I began to get worried! However, it fitted fine and all is working ok. With further research it seems there is precious little difference between the two standards.

With stock cooling, idle temp is ~56 but no higher than with the 800MHz chip. On load though is a different story but as the laptop is used for 24/7 low load purposes I'm not concerned!

Go for it!
