T43 error 0200 failure fixed disk - but hard drive is okay

#1 Post by kam1 » Mon May 04, 2009 10:00 pm

My T43 froze and then reboot itself - at reboot it gave me the message "broadcom not found" (I think this is the ethernet) - rebooted again and now I get the message "error 0200 failure fixed disk"

However I removed the disk and tested it on another laptop and ran "Hitachi Drive Fitness Utility" the tests came back with no errors
I also tested another working hard drive in the T43 and I get the same "error 0200 failure fixed disk"

This doesn't seem to be a hdd problem so what is the problem? - the only thing that I can think of is that earlier today I ran "Windows update" and "installed net framework 3"

Any help is appreciated - thanks

The problem is likely your motherboard...nothing to do with any software updates.

Hopefully you still have warranty left...

Good luck.

AFAIK not AFTER the expiration date.

It could be the IDE controller.
To extend the life of that motherboard, you could buy a 2nd HD adapter and put your main HD in there.
Then swap that unit with your CD/DVD and boot from there.
(if you need CD/DVD, buy a USB version extra).

Just called lenovo support and it seems that it is a motherboard failure - warranty expired september 2008 - the guy told me that it would be £200 for labour then parts and delivery - so it looks like this is going onto the scrapheap!

There are a few T43 motherboards on ebay selling for around £100 - however I am unsure of the particular part number for my T43 motherboard - do I have to open the laptop and will I find a part number on the motherboard or is there any other way of locating the part number?

What's the 7-character model number of your T43?

I have narrowed it down to:

System board assembly

ATI M22-64 (lead-free) 39T0479
leaded 39T5636
ATI M22-64 (lead-free) 39T0464
ATI M24 GL-128 39T0477
ATI M24 GL-128 (lead-free) 39T0480
ATI M24 GL-128 (leaded) 39T5637

Any of these will work, do bear in mind that ones with "128" in them are "p" boards...

If you take the memory door off (on the bottom), then remove the RAM module, you should see a sticker with the motherboard P/N or FRU on it.
