LCD brightness on battery

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Mon Jan 31, 2005 2:01 am

Does the brightness on the screen really effect the battery performance/life? If so, they how much when at 0 and at 7 when running on battery.

The backlight on the LCD has a very large effect on battery performance. All things being equal, the only way to get the full advertised battery life (3-4 hours) is by using level 0. I've never tried to run down the laptop on Level 7, but I wouldn't be surprised if you get 2 hours or less.

I just saw a full length movie on my T-41. Started with a little less than full battery gauge and not have 22% left. The brightness was set to 0, so you are right. The brightness does make a good difference. This is what im going to do from now on when im unplugged.

You can use Mobile Meter, for example, to monitor the discharge rate, see for yourself, then check your battery's capacity and make some calculations on how much worktime you'll recieve.

I am so surprised you can set the brightness to 0 and watch movies.

For me, 3 is not bearable. At least 6. So I wonder if the backlight tube has sth wrong.
