Palm rest question for my T42p
Palm rest question for my T42p
Hallo,
I would like to buy a new palm rest for my T42p - 2373 HTG.
I found this one:
FRU 91P8398
but here is written that only the 14" can have paml rest replacement.
Is that true?? In my 15" can I change the palm rest??
Thanks, C.

The keyboard removal and keyboard bezel removal on the 15" would be similar, but not identical, to the keyboard and palmrest removal for the 14.1" as demonstrated in the videos here:

Also, the Maintainence Manual will show how to do it for the 15"; it's not that difficult:

I just ordered a new palm rest for my 2378-FVU (14.1"). From the movies it looks simple to install but I'm having some difficulty removing certain screws (IBM puts them in really, really tight!) And does anyone know a good way to remove the five screw caps? It's annoying that I won't be able to return my order if I can't get it installed in the first place.

Thanks again. I think it is difficult for the 14" screen beacause the used a particular type of screws. In the movie installation:
"NOTE: Models with an 802.11a/b wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter will have three T7 Torx screws to restrict access to the card by anyone other than an authorized servicer."

The screws that I'm referring to are actually the keyboard screws. I'm pretty sure they aren't these "Torx" screws since I don't have the 802.11a/b wireless LAN and I am able to remove some but not all the screws. My guess is IBM put these in really tight to prevent keyboard flex. Unfortunately for me, it's still preventing me from changing the palm rest

I would recommend that you get a better screwdriver hehe. There should be roughly 14 screws to swap the palmrest on the 15" model. Pop the little screw covers off with a sharp knife or razor blade so you dont damage them and can re-use them. Honestly, if you are having that much difficulty swapping it out on your own, bring it to a business partner and have it done .. that last thing you need is to break something.
