No 1400x1050 external display resolution on T40p?

#1 Post by bert » Mon Jan 31, 2005 4:15 pm

I just got a new projector with a native resolution of 1400x1050, just like the resolution on my ThinkPad display. I was looking forward to be able to project at my normal resolution, but was very disappointed to find that 1400x1050 does not seem to be a supported mode for external displays. Is there a way around this?

I think that depends on the driver that you have installed.
Before I installed Omega drivers there were very few resolution options for external monitors.
Try some other drivers like the Omega graphic drivers.

That's odd. I have Omega drivers and for the external, 2nd monitor I have 1400 x 1050 option that I can choose. Sometimes that option may not be there when you have your monitor plugged in because that specific resolution cannot be displayed by that monitor.

When I don't have the external monitor plugged in, I have the 1400x1050 as one of the resolutions. But I noticed that depending on which monitor I have plugged in the possible resolutions decreases and 1400x1050 is not one of them.

My guess is that the external monitor resolution must be compartible,

i could've sworn my monitor supported it, i remember doing it before i formatted.

you're probably right, though. i wonder if i could update the profile for my monitor or something like that.

To be a little more specific, I can select 1400x1050 but what I will actually get then is 1400x1050 as extended desktop on 1280x1024. I checked with a friend that has a T42p (15"), and he does not even have the option to select 1400x1050. Could this be a hardware limitation with ATI graphics adapters?
