Re: t42 2373-8zu

Product: ThinkPad T42 2373-8ZU
Original description: P M 735, 512MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon 9600, 24x24x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Intel 802.11b/g wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro
The hard drive is kind of small, and it needs more RAM. If you put a large 5400rpm hard drive in it and 2GB RAM, it will be fine for your purposes.

Yep, nice little machine for your purposes. SXGA+ is a good feature.
If you don't need much drive (music? videos?) , then just upgrading RAM to 1GB would be an acceptable minimum.
If you upgrade the drive then consider getting an ultrabay slim drive adapter for cloning to the new drive and keep the old drive for backups.
I do understand that newer bigger drives will also be faster, adding more zip to the machine also.
