t43p hd problem..

#1 Post by tinyndong » Sat May 16, 2009 9:53 pm

my t43p hard drive crashed and didnt have a back up of the recovery cd but have the ibm tools backup. now i installed a toshiba 100GB and at first its showing the error (even tried the hitachi 40GB) , then i tried to instal and fresh copy of xp or ubuntu and it says cannot find hard drive to format..both disc works on usb-ide connected on my desktop... anybody has experience with this or solution? thanks in advance..

Bios and IDE controller is up-to-date and everything runs...

It is possible that your IDE interface had failed if the drives tested out ok in an USB housing.

Welcome to the forum!

What is the error you are referring to?

If your ThinkPad is not recognizing the drive is it possible that the drive is not seated correctly?

Thinkpads use a different master boot record. Mount the disk somewhere and remove partitions.

IBM has a Thinkpad MBR repair tool here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-62978

I've sucessfully used it a number of times - yesterday, in fact.

Also try starting your thinkpad with Gparted CDhttp://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php

Is your new working Toshiba 100gb hard drive recognized by your T43?

One way to confirm is to press F12 on startup to list all boot options.
