T42 WiFi Indicator Blinking...?

New to ThinkPads and especially, WiFi. Reading the manual, I couldn't find an explanation for the wifi indicator to blink when connected and receiving data (surfing and the pages are loading) but remains solidly lit when the page is loaded and not doing anything. Using Windows to control the connection. Is this normal?
