I've got a Thinkpad T42...GPU issue question.

Hi everyone. This is my first post here, and I recently got a Thinkpad T42.

I know there are numerous stickies (which I have read). I'm not too interested in spending a LOT to fix this laptop as I feel that I should just buy a new Thinkpad if I have to replace expensive parts like the motherboard.

Anyways I have a question about the GPU fix. Does using thick paper/business cards between the keyboard and GPU a good way to fix it? I read about the idea, but what is the success rate and how long does the fix usually last?

Thanks in advance guys. This T42's battery was recently replaced so the battery life is great, but the Hard Drive is clicking and probably on it's way out, so I'll probably replace it with a Samsung HM160HC.

It's a temporary fix - more of a diagnostic procedure than a solution. Of course, it doesn't do any harm but I suspect you'll need a more permanent fix soon. I've seen reflowing prices as low as $50 but you have to dissassemble the computer and ship the motherboard yourself.
