Can T40 with 2100 mem upgrade to 2700?
Can T40 with 2100 mem upgrade to 2700?
HI, I am new to the forum.. I want to do couple upgrade to my machine and want to see if the possibility is there.
I have a T40 2373-58U.... running on 1.3G. fairly slow processor.
I have PC2100 Memory currently in the machine. Is there a possibility that if i upgrade all memory to PC2700. the chipset that I have will take advantage of the 2700 and perform at 2700?
I have read the forum and know couple people has successful upgrade to 1.8 Dothan. That is my path to go.

three T40 memory related questions from a newbee. I located a 512MB PC2100 RAM card FRU 10K0033 in the optional location, bottom of a T40 slot. The service manual identifies this slot as 1050 DIMM.
1) Is it safe to relocate this memory card to the motherboard 1070 DIMM (standard) location? I have not read any explicit statement from IBM indicating whether relocating memory from optional location to the standard location is or is not safe.
2) Assuming that relocating the above memory is safe, is it possible to have a 512 MB PC2700 memory card 31P9833 coexist in the optional DIMM location with PC2100 10K0033 memory in the standard location?
3) Is it possible to coexist 200 pin DDR2 sodimm memory in the optional location with the PC2100 in the standard location? and why so?

You should be able to use the PC 2700 in either slot. Although I am not sure why you are "moving" the memory.
Do you realise that you can use 1 GB sticks in both slots for a total of 2GB? But I didn't notice a big difference between 1.5Gb and 2 GB in my Banias (T40/1) machine.
