New memory stick installed in T42

I just installed a 1gb memory in the extra slot. when I boot and go to bios it still shows 512 under memory. how do I correct this? Thanks !

Reseat the module, and make sure it is inserted all the way.
Swap it with the other one under the keyboard, and see if it gets recognized there. If not, you bought rubbish.
