Is my T41p Salvageable?
Is my T41p Salvageable?
Hi guys.
My T41p would give the error message FAN ERROR & then power off.
Based on info I found on these forums & http://foolswisdom.com/fan-error/
I decided to order a new fan from IBM. Unfortunately neither fan spins up.
I can only assume that the motherboard is the problem. According to
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... 192_01.pdf
The part number is 93P3313 but I don't think System Boards can be purchased from IBM.
I think my only option is to sell the ThinkPad as a parts machine. Do I have any more options?
Thanks for looking.

Welcome to the forum!
Sorry to hear about the fate of your T41p. You may want to post a WTB ad in the forum's Marketplace, there are many members here that have no problem shipping worldwide...
Good luck.

Re: Is my T41p Salvageable?
There is a little fuse under the fan, near the PC card slot. That often is the problem. My guess is that your old fan shorted out or drew too much current, blowing the fuse.
Re: Is my T41p Salvageable?
Thanks for the welcome ajkula.
richk, I wasn't able to easily remove the fan so I just plugged the new one in. I wasn't going to bother forcing the fan if I didn't have to.
Thanks for the tip. If I can replace the fuse then I can't wait to take the fan out. From the quicksearch I've done there doesn't appear to be a lot of info. Can I purchase & replace a fuse?
Thanks again.

These fuses are not something you'd find in a regular store...and are generally not meant to be replaced, but can be...
