I just updated my T41 to run IBM Access Connections 3.53. It updated the 802.11a/b/g wireless adapter drivers to 3.1.102.27. Now, when I hit FN+F5 to power down my wireless, I get the message "unable to change power state of 802.11 wireless radio. update the driver for the wireless adapter"
I can't seem to turn it off, like I managed before. I did the upgrade because whenever I was using it through Access Connections, I'd connect to whatever network I was running, and it would drop the connection every 5 minutes. Wifi radio would power down, off it would go, connection dropped. Haven't tested that, but now I've got the opposite problem: it won't turn off...
Any suggestions, much appreciated.
can't power off wireless radio: T41
uninstall both the wireless drivers and Access Connections.... Then reinstall, using the "large" download package that has both Access Connections and the wireless drivers inside the same download package... should re-sync and fix everything (of course, if you don't have another network connection, download the package first).
Thanks Leon.
I went back to the IBM site and downloaded this packgage (1xwc16ww.exe) from the Support page:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.ws ... us&lang=en
It's the latest drivers. I've got the 802.11g card in my t41.
I then expanded the file, unpacked its contents into the C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANATH directory
Then started up setup.exe in that directory
It asked me to update settings or remove. I chose remove. It removed all of the drivers.
Asked me to restart when it finished, I rebooted.
Started up again, it found the wifi card. used the old defaut "Phillips" drivers (2.0.4 something).
I then went back to setup.exe in the Drivers directory, started it up again, and re-installed the new drivers.
Rebooted the box, as asked, and now it's working fine.
New drivers are 3.1.102.27a from Atheros Communications Inc (not Phillips as the default install was).
Seems to power on and off using FN+F5 fine now. Haven't tested it out on the "dropping connection every 5 minutes/powering off the radio" problem yet.
Hopefully the driver upgrade will have helped.
Cheers.
