Are you certain that you do not have a connection issue under the palm rest?

Without knowing the full model number & history of your T42 there is one thing you might want to check. It is possible that, after shipping from IBM, the fingerprint palmrest was installed on a machine that doesn't support the FP reader; not all T42 motherboards support the FP reader.

Go here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... yle=lenovo

and in the Quick Path box enter your full model number 2374-???. The results will tell you if it originally had a FP reader installed.

If that is not definitive, remove the battery & AC adapter, open the RAM cover on the underside, remove the RAM chip and there should be a label that says "Planar FRU XXXXXXX"
Then check that number on the T4x parts page to see if it supports the FP reader, here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 46474.html

If the option doesn't appear in the BIOS, it means that your motherboard doesn't have the biometric coprocessor. (most T42 machines don't have them)
