Upgrading T43 memory

#1 Post by kidpaprika » Wed Jun 10, 2009 4:30 pm

Hi,

I've got a T43 (2668 W13) with 1GB of RAM and I'd like to upgrade this to something a bit higher in capacity.

What's the maximum I can go? Can I go beyond 2GB?

What kind of memory should I go for? There seem to be some quite reasonably priced offers on eBay that claim to be T43 compatible - should I be wary of these at all?

Up to 1gb in each slot. Just finished installing a 1gb Crucial module from newegg.com that was $11.99 with free shipping. It's up to $13.99 today.

kidpaprika,

In case you don't know the pre-installed memory is under the keyboard. The keyboard needs to be removed to access this memory slot. The free memory slot is much easier to access as it is in a removable panel at the base of the machine.

I hope this helps.

Up to 2x 2GB if you are running 64bit OS. Otherwise 2GB is the maximum. You need DDR2 and yes, they are very cheap today. About a dollar a chip or $16 for 2GB. The DRAM makers are losing their b***.

How do you run a 64-bit OS on a T43/p????

Although BIOS will "see" 2.5 or even 3GB installed, the chipset still maxes out at 2GB on these machines.

The T43 can only use 2gb. I have used 1 x 2gb chips in all the T43's that I have used without any issues. Some here have said 2gb chips will not be recognized.

FWIW - My T43p will see a single 2gb module as 2gb of useable RAM in Windows. It will also see one 2gb & one 1gb module as 3gb on the BIOS page but only be able to use 2gb in Windows.

Two 1gb chips is the way it was designed to run.

Others have beet me to it.
But was going to say my new to me T43P is useing 2x 1 gig ddr2-667 chips.
I have also used a single 2 gig ddr2-667 chip with no problems.

2 gig's seems to handle things great.I have installed Vista and W7 rc1 on the T43P and with 2 gig's it runs very nive.Faster then i thought it would.
