Two dead T42's and one semi dead T43.

#1 Post by gogogophers » Thu Jun 11, 2009 6:47 pm

Both my T42's wont boot. After I hit the power button, the lights come on but nothing comes up on the screen. No display at all, not even grey. Just as if you did not turn it on. Just sits there and does nothing. Once, I got several beeps out of it. I think maybe 4 beeps. This is not much to go on but I am hoping someone can give some advice. I swapped out all the hard drives and they all boot in the T43 so I know the hard drives are good. I thought about burning a boot disk but once I got the drives to boot, it seems to rule out that idea. What can I look for or do in my T42's to get them going?? Thanks for any info.

My T43 will boot, but unless I press pretty hard in the lower left corner, it freezes. My guess is this is the GPU issue. My problem though is I do not know where the GPU is in that machine. I found the thread describing how to reflow it but dont know where the GPU is. The images in that thread are of a T42, apparently as mine looks different. Hoping someone has an image of a T43 that shows where the GPU is or at least where to aim my heat gun for this machine.

Edit: Just got the one machine to beep at me. I actually have two T43's and one T42. Got the non booting T43 to beep at me. Here it is.. 3 short beeps followed by a pause. Then 1 beep followed by a pause. Then 4 beeps followed by a pause. Then three beeps. I assume this is a code of some kind. Where to look this up?
Thanks!!!

You need three motherboards...

Good luck.

Well I reflowed the one semi working T43 and it worked.. mostly. Now after an hour or so my internet connection dies. I am guessing things are getting too hot and messing up something. Not sure. My Intel Pro/Wireless 2200GB Network card seems to somehow die. Any ideas?
