Quick questions regarding T42 and T41P motherboards: urgent

#1 Post by irus » Mon Jun 15, 2009 11:32 am

1. Does 39T5495 have fingerprint support?

2. Is US $170 a good price for 27k9987/93p4159 board?

3. what are some of the differences between the above boards? (ethernet/wireless model/FSB/SATA/PATA/RAM/etc.)?

4. will either of the above fit a 14.1" t42 even if the boards were originally installed in a 15" t42??

thanks

1. No it doesn't.
Having a look at the official parts list, the boards which support a fingerprint reader are:

27K9910 (with ATI M7-32 graphics chip)

27K9911 (with ATI M10-64 graphics chip)

27K9912 (with ATI M10-128 graphics chip)

From your other post here you require a board with a Radeon 9600 graphics chip aka ATI M10-64, so the last two will be OK.
A quick price check and they are very high.

The other thing to consider is if you don't use your fingerprint reader get a none-fingerprint reader palm rest which is cheap (UK around £15) and then the board you've already found will be fine - or you may be able to use your existing palm rest and accept the fingerprint reader won't work.

2. I think it's a fair price, possibly slightly on the high side, but if it's the board I'm looking at on eBay, it looks OK.

3. I'll do my best here but I could be wrong.
Wireless is on a separate card.
FSB will be 400MT/s (I think - taking it off the CPU's which can be fitted so I could be wrong)
Hard drives will be ATA /IDE/ PATA(??) but not SATA
RAM will be up to 2G

4. 15" T4x has a 14" board with an extender board (called an Interposer Card) so the CD/DVD can connect to the main board.

Just posting to confirm that poshgeordie has given you a ton of excellent advice.

Instead of dealing with fleabay, you may also want to post a WTB ad in the Marketplace here...and no, I don't have a planar to sell you... :)

Good luck.

update: the seller wants to transact via paypal alone and not via ebay. Is this a safe way of transacting? any precautions to keep in mind as this will be my first purchase from ebay/paypal. Thanks.
