USB Issues with Dock II and Palm
USB Issues with Dock II and Palm
I can sync my palm no problems with the USB cable from the Palm cradle plugged directly into my T42p. But, when docked to the Dock II, the Palm is seen by the PC, but the Sync fails?
Can anyone offer any help here?

Yeah, I've seen similar posts like this on this site.
I guess the USB ports you have on the Dock-II goes through a USB hub (it's not just a passthrough). The USB hub on the Dock-II craps out for syncing with the Palm.
I think a lot of USB hubs can't do palm syncing. I tried plugging in a 3rd party USB hub to one of the USB ports on my T42 and I couldn't sync. Without the hub it works fine.

Thanks thinkpadhk. I sorted through all the various configuration options and checked with the device manager - yes the Dock II USB ports appear as a USB hub.
I'm not going to give up, it does not make any sense as to why the OS can see my palm but not sync? If it will not work, I'm curious to know why.
Before my T42p, I was syncing with a Dell 530 Workstation where I installed a PCI USB2/Firewire combo card. Connected to this card was one of those BELKIN USB2.0 hubs and the palm synced fine.
I assume the USB ports out the back of the Dock II are USB 2, right? I'd like to avoid the wear & tear plugging & unplugging USB cables as much as possible.
Thanks again.

1. The Dock 2 and Minidock act as USB hubs, not just passthroughs.
2. The USB ports should all be USB 2.0 compatible.
3. I have a Port replicator (passthrough only), and with a 3rd party USB huc connected, it doesn't sync with my webcam - the hardware is recognized but the signal is scrambled.
You'd think a mature technology like USB would have such fundamental problems ironed out by now
