Do T42's hold their value?
Do T42's hold their value?
Yes I'm aware that computers lose their value like cars but it always amazes me how Apple Powerbooks hold their value, I see Powerbooks on eBay that are a year or so old and they sell for only $200-$300 less than a brand new model. There are Titanium Powerbooks that are 2-3 years old and they sell for $1500-$1600.
How about the T series Thinkpads, are they known to hold their value a little better than the average PC notebook?

Probably not quite so much. One of the reasons PBs hold their value is because Apple has traditionally been slow to update them with new models, so there are fewer changes between a PB today and one from a year ago (yes I'm aware new PBs were released this week).
Of course, Apples are alsoless of a commodity, tend to be built fairly well, and have a higher "lust" value amongst purchasers that also work to keep their resale value high.

Thumbs up. A computer is not an investment.jdhurst wrote:In my opinion, it is best to think of your new acquisition as valueless and then sleep better. Computers really are worthless very quickly.

The higher end T42 Thinkpads offer a lot of value if you buy it now, with new T43 reigning top spot at the moment. Those like myself who bought it 6-8mnths ago paid a nice premium for the privledge (sp?).

Thinkpads are like a rolex or a patek phillipe..
well, ok, thinkpads do not usually come diamond encrusted and solid gold..
would make it too heavy..
but the idea is there..
a tool is a tool whether its a watch or a computer..
