T42 - Lid latch repair?

#1 Post by finisterre » Thu Jun 25, 2009 10:42 am

I once slammed the lid shut too hard on my T42 (2373-CF8) and it broke one of the latches.

The left latch still seems to be spring loaded, but the right latch can be moved by hand but is not spring-loaded. There is only only slider on the outside (on the right hand-side). This make it necessary to use brute force to open the Thinkpad once it is closed.

Is this an easy fix? I'm not great with ultra-fiddly fixes. Do you think I will need new parts or might it just be a case of hooking a spring back on?

Thanks.

This is a fiddly fix and you need the exact parts. You have to do some disassembly of the lid and such work is picky and exacting (Having done it). See if you can get the parts, and also see what a new lid would cost on eBay. ... JDH
