CD-ROM does not eject after installing software!!!

#1 Post by thinkpadhk » Fri Feb 04, 2005 1:57 am

OK.... another annoying thing I discovered about my laptop.

I just installed MS Office Pro 2003, and once I was done the [censored] CD-ROM would not eject! I tried ejecting it with the menus in Win XP, and by pressing the eject button on the CD-ROM. No response!

I had to reboot for the thing to respond to my eject commands.

Then I installed the Outlook CD, and same thing! After installation the CD-ROM stopped listening to any eject commands (software or eject button)! I can still read the CD and run the install program, but I just can't eject!

Does anyone know what's up? How do I fix this?

ARrrrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!

Had the same problem, a other user pointed me to yet an other topic where this problem is mentioned. There is a firmware fix for this problem.

But I called ibm to replace my drive, and they did. And now (tried 6 cd's) it eject just when I want it to do.

But yes, IBM replaced it in 2 days, and since then I never had this problem again.

I had the same problem with my new 2379-R9U. Called IBM this past Wednesday at 4PM Pacific regarding the problem, received my replacement drive about 20 hours later!

I must say that my first experience w/ IBM support totally caught me by surprise. Not only are their products a level above the competitors, but their service is one of a kind. I don't think I'll ever buy another brand of laptops ever again....unless something terribly goes wrong with their quality or support.
