motherboard testing for t42

motherboard testing using a pc doctor the best way to go or some additional tests are required?

PC-Doctor is a commonly accepted testing utility for Thinkpads. If the systemboard passes all PC-Doctor tests then it's generally good. Just make sure to loop the tests for the systemboard and memory for several passes. Since the GPU is soldered on the systemboard, all video tests should be included.,

would that be dos pc doc or windows? and i dont have working cdrw. only a desktop dvdrw in external usb 2.0 enclosure.

It doesn't matter which version that you run. I personally use a bootable CD...so DOS.

Unfortunately, the advice is incorrect.

PC-Doctor for DOS is useless in figuring out problems with the graphics card.
I can confirm this with many examples.

Use PC-Doctor for windows and let the loop run for 20times, then you will might get a lot of graphics errors (visible on the screen), where PC-Doctor Dos said it was ok.
