IBM RECOVERY DISCS, FACTORY

IBM RECOVERY DISCS

HAVE PROBLEMS WITH RECOVERY DISCS. T30 unit installs but wants ok from microsoft to run for more than 30 days. regular install with XP disc works fine with no callup to ok, but when I try to get updates it fools around for minutes and comes up with not "genuine" although it is a regular disc. [you can get media and net, installer etc which is all I need as most of the updates are worse than the problems] . MS provides a screen to buy a $150 copy even before it "tests" your copy. and sometimes it takes days to get an ok for updates, and then they try to sell you a new "OS".

also on a T43p the discs stop after the first one claiming it is the wrong disc. the original 7200hd seems not to pass read tests on pc dr etc. a new segate 250g hd only read 120 on the pc dr and bios. a WD 160 read 160 and even blank would not get past the first disc of ibm recovery discs.

Any ideas?

When you go to activate you can choose over the internet or on the phone. Maybe you should choose the phone option and explain to Microsoft that you've got a genuine copy of XP, but it won't activate. Perhaps they can remedy the situation.

mY PROBLEM IS WHY DO THE RECOVERY DISCS NOT WORK????

YES YOU CAN CALL MS AND MAYE GET A N OK, BUT ID RATHER NOT AS ALMOST NOTHING IS WORTH GETTING ON THEIR UPDATES EXCEPT A FEW THINGS YOU CAN GET WITHOUT THEIR "ADVANTAGE" . SOMETIMES IT WONT WORK FOR HOURS.

I SEEM TO REMEMBER MS REQUIRING EVERYONE AT FIRST TO CALL BEFORE THEY COULD USE THEIR "OS". REMEMBER ARTICLES IN THE TIMES ABOUT INDIANS NOT BEING NEAR A PHONE TO CALL.

MY PROBLEM WITH THE IBM DISCE IS THAT MY T43 WONT INSTALL . RUNS THE FIRST DISC THAT ERASES STUFF AND THEN ASKES FOR THE NEXT DISC AND THEN SAYS ITS NOT THE RIGHT ONE EVEN THOUGH THE NUMBERS SEEM CORRECT.

WD HD WORKS BUT GIVES 2010 ERROR ON START,AND IBM DOESNT SEEM TO SUPPLY THE PROPRIORITY HD ANYMORE AND MOST GIVE ERROR 2010, BUT WORKS FINE WITH ESC KEY.

First: stop using all capitals, it's called SHOUTING and is very impolite and irritating.

Second: your installation is not complete, i.e. you never got any IBM/Lenovo drivers installed, just the bare Windows.
You need to fully wipe the hard disk, before you start the Recovery procedure.
get the program DBAN from http://www.dban.org.

After you wipe and have installed the first CD, it should ask for a 2nd (3rd/etc.) disk. If not, you didn't wipe correctly.
Once all the CDs have been installed, you will have a pre-activated Windows, with all drivers and utility programs.
No need to call M$.

DISCS ARE: 39K9237 AN THE NEXT IS 39K9263. The problem is from disc 1 to disc 2. erased with pc doctor full erase. the remaining ones are correct numbers.

NEW HD IS WESTERN DIGITAL.

Those seem to be the correct FRU's. Are they copies or originals?

look to be originals. just got them on ebay. was told they might not like bigger hd's.

not sure of 2010 error effect. esc makes it normal and regular disc loads.

FINNALY GOT THEM TO WORK. Odd, copies of the disc worked better than the originals. Had problems with not recognising disc and had to try several times. took hours. Went on a 320 G drive OK . also almost went on defective drive [80G] that was not erased [it just wouldnt recognise the last disc with "wrong disc"].

Instructions were confusing. no mention of blank disc. [this disc is also used to repair the system]. no mention of saying no to "supplimental" disc to go to programs.

like new when it finally ran. Ran for hours setting up and needed the esc key for the 2010 error.

Strange, it never asked for the coa numbers on the bottom sticker. other xp discs do require they be used.

You'd only need the key from the COA if you install using an OEM Windows version.
You were using an IBM-Volume-License-Key via the Recovery disks.
