CD Drive Noise

#1 Post by atct86 » Fri Feb 04, 2005 4:56 pm

randomly when i put cds into my drive it makes a horrible noise. Sort of like a grinding noise, but there is no damage to anything.,

What could be causing this?

CD not seated properly...defective CDs...defective CD drive. Does the drive read/write the disk properly?

I tried multiple cd/dvds. So it is not a defective disk.

I restead the disk 3 times, and on the third time it worked.

I seem to have the problem mainly with dual layer disks, and disks with paper labels on them.

If you have updated your BIOS, there is an option where you can select the CD drive to be "silent".

Out of balance disk. Happens to me occasionally too, but not just in my T42!
