Will your T4* hibernate after closing lid for a long time?

Hi, I just wonder if this is normal.

My T41 stands by after I close the lid and leave it alone. But it NEVER hibernates automatically until the battery is out of power. The system will give a loud beep waking me up in the early morning and switch to hiberate then, which is pretty annoying.

However, the option here only allow selection from either standby or hibernation. Is it possible that closing lid leads to standby first, and after a while, say, half or one hour later, it enters hibernation?

Hi, sugo. Actually that option was set already. However it seems that the option here is for the case the lid not closed. The closing lid option is independent from the defined power scheme.

Hi Firstep. I see what you mean here. I just tried it with a 1 minute hibernation timer and it doesn't activate when you standby-by-closing-lid. I don't think there's a way in windows to keep the "standby then hibernate" scheme active when the lid is closed.

The closest thing to what you want would probably be to set your computer to "Do nothing" when you close the lid, and set reasonable inactivity times for standby and hibernate in Power Options. So, something like:

When I close the lid: Do Nothing
Running on Batteries, Standby after: 15 minutes
Running on Batteries, Hibernate after: 30 minutes.

PS - it sounds like you're letting your system drain its batteries out every day. The Li-ion batteries in the laptop only hold their charge for about 300 cycles, so if they drain to the point of hibernation every night, you're going to get less than a year of practical use out of them. I'd recommend running on AC whenever possible, and setting the machine to shut down or hibernate if you won't be using it for more than an hour or so (especially before you sleep).

Or you can forget about the overusing, relax, use it to the max, and then before your year of warranty ends, return it and ask for a replacement :)
