Question about using a dead WD hard drive Case

#1 Post by kuma » Tue Jul 14, 2009 8:37 pm

So my WD passport external HD completely died on me and isn't recognized, and spins for a sec and then stops. I'm wondering if I can buy an new HD and then place the new HD in the old external casing?

Thanks.

Yes you can. I've had mine in and out of the case several times.

Nope, any capacity drive will work as long as it is 2.5" and SATA interface

Or PATA too Harry! My WD passport is a PATA enclosure.

@kuma-- open it up (unless its under warranty) and see what you got in there. I've used my WD Passport enclosure with many other drives without any problems.

Good point Virge, I was wondering if maybe the older models had PATA, now I know.
