Thinkpad T43 DVD-ROM not reading DVDs.....but can read CDs.?

You could try deleting the ide drivers, but it's probably old and broke.

I've had a string of bad ones, I think these (for the the T4*) are prone to problems, if you can borrow another one, or test this one in another T4*, that will let you know.

UPDATE!! it can read some. but not all...seems like it wont spit it out...

Welcome to the forums and sorry to hear of your problem.

Open the CD DVD drawer and have a close look at (but don't touch) the lens - you should see a domed lens. If it's flat looking then you've lost the focus lens and need a new drive.

Use a CD DVD head cleaner like this from eBay.

I'm not aware of any specific Windows drivers for the drive (there are DOS ones here), so not sure which IDE drivers the previous poster is referring to.
Any chance of posting a link?

I'd also try another drive as suggested already! There's one here on eBay from British Columbia.
