3DMark03 score and 3DMark05 hang

#1 Post by davidlg16 » Sun Feb 06, 2005 4:45 pm

I just ran 3dmark03 and 05 on my stock 2378FVU - 256ram - fresh xpp installed with original ibm drivers

The following is the results from 3dmark03 with the resolution tested at 1024x768@32bit (can't change it on the free version)

Main Test Results
3DMark Score 2490 3DMarks
CPU Score 656 CPUMarks

Detailed Test Results
Game Tests
GT1 - Wings of Fury 101.6 fps
GT2 - Battle of Proxycon 14.3 fps
GT3 - Troll's Lair 13.8 fps
GT4 - Mother Nature 14.8 fps

CPU Tests
CPU Test 1 79.9 fps
CPU Test 2 10.5 fps

Feature Tests
Fill Rate (Single-Texturing) 631.1 MTexels/s
Fill Rate (Multi-Texturing) 1238.5 MTexels/s
Vertex Shader 8.3 fps
Pixel Shader 2.0 25.5 fps
Ragtroll 10.0 fps

*aren't the results kinda wack? i saw someone else's similar T42 got a score of around 3500 with 512 of ram. are my results subpar because i haven't upgraded my memory yet?

When i ran 3DMark2005, my stock T42 went into a dark blank screen within 5-10 seconds of starting the test. i had to manually shut down with the power botton. again i can't change any setting since i'm using the free trial, so had to test at 1024x768 again. Will I be able to run 3dmark05 if i upgrade my ram? i'm thinking that's the cause of the hang?

also on an interesting note, while the screen was dark blank mode, i discovered that if i press the lcd from the lid, i get a big bubble showing always around the same area, it goes away when i stop pressing, this only happens when i press one of my fingers on the left side. when i press my finger on the right half of the lcd lid, nothing happens, screen seems very rigid. I read somewhere on the forum that TPs are supposed to be better than other brands in this area because the lid is very rigid, this is true on the right half of my lcd, but the left half is just like my 15'' powerbook g4 :(

Oh oh... I get that behavior too! However, I can't even run 3dmark2003 without it locking up. I'm sending my laptop in on Monday for a new display adapter over it.

Why do people care about these benchmarks so much?

If it runs your game / 3D app fine, is that enough? If it's not fine, then running benchmark is not going to make it any faster.

I wouldn't care if it were actually an incompatibility but these particular benchmarks are known to be able to run on a T42 on this card and it actually crashes the system on mine. I've had experiences where this was a sign that a video adapter was going to go out. I don't want to get everything just the way I like and have to start from scratch later on if that happens. A brand new machine should NOT ship with a defective video card. Think of it as preventative maintenance...

i tried running 3DMark05 again and it gave me the error message:

IDirect3DDevice9::DrawIndexedPrimitive failed: Out of video memory (D3DERR_OUTOFVIDEOMEMORY)

ran it again and:

in the middle of the 1st game test, the screen stops and gets brighter and brighter and finally to a blank screen!!

has anyone with a 64mb radeon 9600 been able to successfully finish 3DMark05?

do you have more than 256mb of ram in urs? do you think that might be the reason why it wont finish 3Dmark05?

i ordered 512 from crucial but it's not here yet.

thanks
David

p.s. this thing is bugging the crap out of me, i did another fresh install to see if there's any difference, but the 3dmark05 still freezes, sigh
