Just bought a T22 - Got some questions

Hey all. I just got a GREAT deal on a Thinkpad T22 2647-8EU. I picked it up used for just $300!
Formatted and fresh-installed Win2000 SP4. I found all the drivers I needed off IBM's website

I'm glad to have found a forum like this because I have some questions:

-How long should the battery last on this model? The guy I bought it from said that the one in there lasts ~2hrs. If I am interested in getting a new battery, where should I get it from and about what should it cost?

-I have a DVD ROM drive. I am interested in getting the CDRW/DVD-ROM combo drive... but the few places I have seen them online, they cost $100+! I could buy a new burner + enclosure for cheaper than that. I already have a 52x burner and a DVDRW/CDRW burner in my 2 desktops, should i just make do with what I have? Which ultrabay drives fit my T22? Do they burn cd's well?

-How do I use the infrared port?

-There are 2 ports on the back that I can't identify. Opposite side from the ps/2 mouse port. One looks like an svideo port and the other is small and rectangular. Here's a pic:


-Last, up to what size hard drive can the T22 handle? Where's the best place to get replacement hard drives?

I would say forget about the $100 drive. You might as well get a dvd burner for under $200.

Your Ultrabay can handle any Ultrabay devices except for Ultrabay Slim, which is a newer, thinner standard used in T4x models...

You can put in any size of drive currently available on the market, really... For best performence go with the 7200RPM Hitachi 7K60, if you want storage you can go with an 80GB 5400RPM. You can pick them up anywhere online, www.newegg.com seems to be popular around here.

The battery life seems quite normal for that type of laptop, even better actually, considering it's used. 4-6 hour battery life never existed before the Intel Centrino processor... 2.5 hours was standard on most laptops.

Not quite sure what you mean by how to use the Infrared port, but you have to just get the device you want to sync with, and point it's Infrared port to your ThinkPad's one (within a reasonable line of sight). Your ThinkPad should detect the device in range automatically.

The ultrabay, IIRC is called Ultrabay 2000.

Battery life is fantastic. I have T22 and on a battery with 120 cycles, can only get an hour. I added an ultrabay2000 battery and get a nice 3.5-4 hours on both batteries.

The infrared may be disabled in your BIOS or in the Windows device manager. Check those two locations to make sure it is set to on.

Totally unrelated to your situation, but just how do you find how many cycles your battery has charged? I've got a T40 (23738cu) and I've never been able to find any place within the Batterymiser or battery info applications where you can find this information.

In the IBM battery tool on your task bar, you should be able to click it and select battery info. In there you can select different tabs to see different info. If this does not help, take a look at the Access IBM sheets and see what that tells you. I left the TP at home today, so I cannor offer the actual button names, button presses, and the like. Also, cannot offer any screen shots of said pages, tabs, panels. Sorry. Maybe somebody else can or I can do it later tonight.

The IBM battery tool is fantastic to get the 'deep' information.
