integrated wireless

#1 Post by lppy » Mon Feb 07, 2005 1:02 pm

Am trying to buy T42. It comes with
Intel® PRO Wireless 2200 Network Connection 802.11b/g

Do I need a second card to be wireless, or just my modem?

On the IBM website, first they have the "wireless" category, then the "wireless conectivity" Not sure if I need ssomething from both categories or not.

Thanks.

The intel 2200BG will be enough for you to use wireless LAN.

Make sure you have the newest drivers. Intel put a ton of their stupid wireless NIC's on the street *before* some half-wit there thought about making them work. (I have one that I trashed over that issue and got the IBM card). ... JD Hurst

Having used both Atheros AR5001X and Intel 2200BG, intel has better range and makes much less heat in g mode. It has some decent hardware engineering in it. As of driver version 8.1.0.28 it's fairly stable as well with XP SP2 WZC. Not sure if the card is really that stupid but I am happy with mine.

Yeah, I'm using the 2200BG w/ 8.1.0.28 drivers. Interestingly I couldn't get WZC to work but that's probably because of my cheap Netgear WGR614 router. The 2200 works very well through IBM access connections. Using WEP, because the Netgear can't do WPA.

I second this thought, and I'd recommend updating IBM Access Connections as well. If you're having any problems, it could be because of incompatibilities between Access Connections and Win XP SP2. I have Intel's 2100 3B in a T40 2374, and the wireless worked fine until I installed SP2--now it's gone, and I have updated Intel drivers and Access Connections, and all's well again.
