T42 Hard Drive Options

I am thinking about purchasing this T42 Thinkpad in the following link:

Would a solid state hard drive be compatible with this particular computer? If I do pull the trigger on this computer, I was thinking about upgrading the hard drive because 40 GB is a relatively small amount of storage space. If anyone has upgraded the hard drive on their T42 to a solid state drive, your insight would be greatly appreciated.

That's a LOT of money for an extremely basic T42...add a few bucks and get a T60...

They do make some PATA SSDs, but from what I've gathered none of them are that great. Like George said a T60 is probably only a few bucks more. You can probably get a R60 for the same price if you're patient. Both will get you access to SATA drives and a much wider selection of SSDs, but those ThinkPads are limited to SATA I speeds. The best drives like the Intel X25-M or OCZ Vertex are much faster than SATA I. The same goes for the T61. You'll need one of the newest ThinkPads like a T400 or X200 to get the most out of a SSD. You'll spend a lot of money for not much better performance than the newest platter based drives. Good Luck.
