T43 -- plugged in or not, no lights

#1 Post by joefried » Fri Aug 14, 2009 6:50 pm

My thinkpad was fine last night, but I was sleeping on a porch in Maine and it may have been subject to condensation. As I recall, this morning it was plugged in and the charging light was on. I unplugged it and put it in my travel case. When I tried to start it on the road, no lights came on. I took out the battery and wiped the leads and tried again. This time the lights came on as if it was about to start, then they went off after about 5 seconds.

Now that I'm home I've plugged it in and it doesn't indicate it's charging. I tried starting with and without the battery pack, nothing.

I found a post that suggested I switch it off and on ten times (without it being connected) then plug it in (sans battery) and turn it on. Again the lights went on briefly as if it was going to start, then nothing.

I'm lost without my thinkpad! Can anybody suggest any fixes?

If it was moisture that got into it it may still revive. Take it apart and let it all dry out a few days.

Also maybe moisture blew a fuse.

SlamX is probably correct and you need to dry out your Thinkpad for as long as possible.

Hopefully it will be OK in a day or two.
