T41P Screen Resolution
T41P Screen Resolution
Hi ,
We have been purchasing T41p's for work and a few people complain about the screen resolution of 1400x1050 being too small.
When setting it at 1024x768 the screen is slightly blurry , I have tried adjusting the refresh rates aswell but nothing seems to work.
Are these screens capable of running a clear display @ 1024x768 ?
Thanks,
Matt

Unfortunately, the answer is no.
LCDs are notorious for being very sharp at their native resolution, but blurry at lower resolutions. This bluriness occurs because the panel is trying to display 1024 pixels by 768 pixels in a 1400x1050 physical display. 1400 doesn't divide evenly by 1024, and 1050 does not divide evenly by 768, so the display system has to make approximations in the scaling.
A 1600x1200 display should scale down to 800x600 with no blurriness because a cluster of 4 pixels easily becomes 1 pixel at the lower res.

Thanks for the highly useful response. My T41 does 1024x768 at the highest (so that is native) and it is completely, totally, and entirely crystal clear. I really like it, and have not felt the need for higher resolution. Next time I need a laptop (longhorn time), I will have to ensure the screen does 1024x768 clearly. .... JD Hurst
Well there is another solution to your problem, actually... You can just make everything on the screen slightly larger instead of decreasing the resolution..
Go into Display Properties > Settings > Advanced, and increase the DPI.. That should make things a lot more readable, it will actually look even crisper than native 1024x768, because the fonts will be a lot more "chizzled"..
If you want to make the icons bigger you can do that too, just go to Display Properties > Appearance > Effects, and enable Use large icons.

I forgot about the font DPI scaling thing, although it doesn't work in some applications and causes the GUI to look funny in others. The next version of Windows (Longhorn) is supposed to fix this, but that's still a ways off.
I vaguely remember trying DPI scaling on my old desktop (Windows 2000 box) with less than stellar results.
Give it a try, it may work for you.

t41 screen resolution
Has any of you tried higher res than the native on a T41 ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500?
Re: t41 screen resolution
Increasing the LCD to such a resolution is useful only when you are using an external monitor. The native resolution is actually the maximum area that your LCD can display at a time.migo2137 wrote:Has any of you tried higher res than the native on a T41 ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500?
You can think of it as the LCD having an individual light for each pixel. Since there is a set number of lights, you cannot have a resolution that any higher. This is also the reason why there is bluriness if you go below the resolution. Pixels cannot group together properly (consider grouping 2.3 pixels?)
If you exceed this resolution, you will only be able to see a crop of the total desktop (ie. top left corner by default) The TP does allow you to "scroll" over to the other parts though.
