It works OK, but you can never get rid of 2010. There is no firmware flash for that drive.

If I may add something, you have an option in the BIOS, so the computer doesn't stuck in the 2010 error waiting for you taping a key. So you have the 2010 error, and it'll beep each time your computer will boot, but not a big deal.

Funny thing, first time I read about this "2010 error", I thought it was a bug like year 2K bug, and in 2010 Thinkpads owners would have some issues with their computers ^^

You can use it in the ultrabay.

List of compatible primary drives in here:

There is no "error". It was a sneaky marketing stunt pulled by IBM to force customers to pay $100.00 more for one of their "branded" hard drives. Just have the BIOS skip thru the phony alert and continue to boot, as another poster has advised. No harm will come to your computer despite the dire message.

Not sure that's entirely accurate, as some drives do not support all the command interfaces that the T43 reportedly uses. Besides, some drives that are compatible with the T43 aren't IBM branded drives.

I have a T43P running a new Samsung 160gig drive. I do get the 2010 error but in the bios it's set to just keep booting .I also turn down the speaker volum befor i turn off the laptop and i dont even hear the beep's.
I also have the ThikVantage Active Protectection running and it's working great.
I'm very happy with my new samsung 160 gig in my T43P.I'm also running Windows 7 and get a rateing of 5.5 on it.

The error may be an issue if one tries to resell the laptop, as some folks would be loathe to purchase one with an error during bootup.

I think APS might be running, but the drive might in fact be unprotected against sudden shocks. The drive doesn't support the UNLOAD_IMMEDIATE command (either out-of-the-box or with a firmware update applied), which the T43 issues to the drive for it to immediately park the heads.

Try dropping your laptop to see
