T42 with the 6 cell battery question

#1 Post by rocketman » Wed Feb 09, 2005 9:24 am

My T42 2379R9U has the 9 cell battery, I also have the Ultrabay slim battery. The 9 cell battery extension out the back would be a pain when traveling with the T42, if I got the 6 cell battery to use when I travel appoximately what would be my battery uptime with it together with the ultraslim battery?

That's my exact configuration. I haven't actually tested battery runtime, but I'm in Linux without power management on my Radeon 9600 but with my processor speed auto-adjusting between 600 and 800 while on battery and with screen brightness at the max it'll go to on battery, I know I have gotten more than 6 hours. I sorta just turned off the thing to shut the display off, and unplugged it before I went to bed, and when I woke up it was still going (with WiFi on, bluetooth off).

If you want some hard numbers I could definitely do that.

Edit: Right now @ 90% charge (I'm still not sure if it's properly doing the math for the two batteries, haven't looked at the source yet) if I unplug it says I have 5 hours 50 minutes remaining with full screen brightness and compiling a big program in the background.

What video card do you have, I would figure the Radeon 7500 would have better battery life than the 9600, but I didn't get a chance to test it when Solectron messed up my laptop and gave me a 7500.
