help with wireless on 2378-duu, cannot find networks

#1 Post by nikemen » Wed Feb 09, 2005 10:22 am

So, with a new 2378-duu, 2200 BG card, I cannot find the network in my house, even when right next to the ap.

Search yielded a couple of results, but old results, wondering what people are doing now

my 2374-4gu has no problem at all with the IBM a/b/g card. But, I would think that being RIGHT NEXT to the ap would at least get me somewhere.

I put in another 3com AP, with only B and I saw it, but really could not connect.

Is this a troubled combination, and does IBM send out a new better card at all? Is there a software update that corrects there problems?

thanks for peoples responses,

Sounds more like a problem with your AP than with the WiFi card in the Thinkpad!

Is your AP set to filter by MAC address? WEP turned on?

yeah, so mac filtering is on, WEP was off. I put the mac address in, like with the other 10 products that access it.

Then, I tried turning off access control completly. That didn't work.

I put in the 3com AP, no Access control, no WEP or WPA, and I SAW that one, but could not connect.

I mean, there are literally 10 other devices that connect to this netgear WGT624 all the time, 802.11b and G devices.

This is the first one that is giving me trouble.

TCP/IP enabled on the Thinkpad and set to Auto? DHCP enabled?

Did you get the MAC address off the card itself or off a loose sticker? I've gotten mini-PCI WiFi cards where the MAC address sticker that's supposed to go on the outside of the laptop didn't match the one on the card!

Have you tried setting up an ad-hoc connection to your other Thinkpad or one of your other machines?

How about if you set the IP address manually?

Yes, TCP/IP and DHCP at least for now.
I got the mac address off the bottom of the TP, but then confirmed it in ipconfig. I WASN'T able to release/renew, since it kept saying no adaptor, but I then wasn't able to at least SEE the adaptor in CMD.

So, this is not for lack of trying, or knowledge, thought maybe there were some other answers, like: yeah, that card it beat. Or, you DEFINITLY need the driver upgrade.

No AC running on this one either, just SP2 wireless configuration.
