SP2 on T42p

#1 Post by drewk425 » Wed Feb 09, 2005 5:45 pm

I have just joined the new forum, so if this topic has already been discussed please forgive me.

I have not installed SP2 for XP on my T42p because I have been warned by a friend that it could cause problems. On the other hand I am concerned about security.

What is the concencus of the forum regarding this issue?

make sure your machine is clean of viruses and spyware, make a backup, and update to SP2

SP2 is here to stay and consensus is that did not cause problems in our thinkpads. Do as Leon suggested and you will be fine.

(backup is always a must in all mayor installations, but in hundreds of pcs, i had never run into problem with the SP2 installation)
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

ALL new T42 and the coming T43 series are SP-2 since last december or thereabouts..

works VERY well..

you can do the update or get a set of recovery CD's with XP-SP2..

most any T42 recovery CD set should work just fine on your T42p..
how do i know..?
i did a recovery from a T42 (JXU, no fingerprint reader) and used it on a T42p with fingerprint reader and it applied with all the drivers..

The only other thing I could add to the good advice given is to make sure your drivers are all new or fairly new. IBM updated most all of their applications and drivers since SP2 came out. I have been running it since last August with no ill effects. ... JD Hurst

My T42 (2379R9U) came pre-installed with SP2 and I've had absolutely no problems.
