Great laptop only after upgrading laptop. 256MB RAm is painful.

When is the best time to buy? Anytime is good time to buy. If you wait too long IBM may not offer it anymore since T43s are rolling out.

BIll Morrow in this forum seems to give pretty good deals and many many members in this forum have purchased from him and they have been very happy.

I would recommend buying from Bill or direct from IBM, but not newegg for a Thinkpad.
Don't get me wrong...I LOVE NEWEGG for almost everything. But I don't buy notebooks or LCD monitors from them because of their return policy. It takes a TON of dead pixels to return a monitor or notebook to newegg. It is either 6 or 8, can't remember, but WAY too many!
With Bill, you can arrange for a dead pixel test before it is sent to you.
With IBM you have 30 days to return product for ANY reason.
Bill is less money than IBM but he does not take credit cards, you need to wire transfer to him. He does not charge tax.
IBM, of course takes credit cards, but costs more and you pay tax.

Also, if you want to add Thinkpad protection, you can't do it with newegg.

My $.02 worth.

It is NOT an IPS display!! Nor is it wide viewing angle, nor is it high density.
The only IPS, wide viewing angle, high density display that IBM makes is the 15" Thinkpad with Flexview.
This is an error on the website that should have been corrected LONG AGO.

Just thought you should know.

elyrly,

At first it seems like NewEgg.com might be the better place, price wise, to buy a T42 2378-fvu as their price is $1,599.00. ibm.com offers it at $1,649.00 -- $50 more than newegg.

However, IBM offers discounts like the one thru Visa http://www.ibm.com/businesscenter/visa where you can purchase the fvu for $1,484.10.

Search for visa on this board and you can find similar discounts for mastercard, american express, and discover.

You don't need a business Visa card- I've used my personal visa without problems on this website:
http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... logId=-840
( google "lenovo visa small business". Once you're there, they don't seem to care whether small business or not- I vaguely recall a thread about a year ago- they may not even care if it's visa (e.g American Express or mastercard is okay for payment!)- i don't recall, since I used Visa, no hassle. Recommend site highly, assuming you're planning on dealing directly with Lenovo. Good luck!

Thanks eggman. Appreciate the insight. Now would you say that Bill can get these cheaper for us?

PS: Is he official reseller /etc so that warranty is valid etc.
