T40 died, T43 from ebay to replace. No HDD recognition

Will a single 2GB stick of pc 5300 work if i empty the stock ram out of the first (keyboard) bay? 2GB sticks are only like $2 more than 1GB sticks im finding. I know it would work on any of the towers i've built, but laptops arent my "domain" so to speak.

I use Crucial's website to do the configuration of RAM. It will tell you exactly what you need.

No it will NOT work.
Those T43s have a limit of 2x 1GB RAM.

Yes it will, but in some cases they are still using old information. For example, if you select an A31p (2653), Crucial says that the maximum memory is 1GB.
