DVD-RAM drive trouble in T42p

OK i know it has been covered before and I apologize but I need help to make my Multi-Burner use DVD-RAM media.

I bought Panasonic DVD-RAM and upon insertion an error is:

"Your version of DLA can read files on this disc but you will not be able to edit or add to them."

What do I need to do in order to use these DVD-RAM discs?

Call IBM?

Just right-click on DVD-RAM icon and select "Format drive".
After that you will be able to use the DVD-RAM as an HD
