T43 - 2686-DJU not booting

#1 Post by senv » Sun Sep 13, 2009 2:11 am

Hi All,
I am having issues with my T43. Ok. I have given what happened with my laptop in chronological order.

1. I got a virus in my laptop while accessing a movie site. The software "Antivirus 2010" installed itself into my laptop and scanned the registry for issues. I tried scanning with McAffe and it did not work. Then i rebooted the PC. Then all the problems started.

2. When i tried rebooting it gave "ntldr missing" error. When i checked in internet, somebody suggested that the file required for booting might have been deleted. I guess virus in my system deleted it.

3.Then i tried the System restore with IBM provided CDs. Now the system has asked to give all the 8 CDs one by one and it copied so many files into the Hard disk ( I guess). Now the system restarted itself and it says IBM System restore failed.

4. I did some reading and learned that if the hard disk has been re-partioned, the IBM service area might have got corrupted/delete. Yes, I have re-partitioned the hard disk some time bck. Somebody in this forum suggested that I use "Ultimate boot CD" and delete all the partions and then try the system restore.

5. Now i am ready with bootable "Ultimate Boot CD". But now the system does not boot from CD. I verified the BIOS setup to confirm the boot order. The first device is CD. But the system always go to IBM rescue and recovery though i dont have any recovery CDs in the CD drive.

Its a real pain to not be able to clean the hard drive and do the system restore? Can somebody help me????

Thanks in advance.

are you SURE that your HDD is clean..?

if it were me i would start by running FDISK or some other utility to be sure the HDD is totally clean with NOTHING AT ALL on it..

THEN run the IBM CD based recovery..
be sure to follow all the instructions closely and be sure to let it reboot..

the recovery CD set is made to apply to a totally blank HDD..

it SOUNDS like it might be finding the recovery partition and trying to boot from there..

be sure that your HDD is totally clean and try again..

and verify the boot order..
carefully review the bios settings..

good luck..

When I did a restore from Recovery disks I was emphatically told to have a clean Hard Drive!

Click on the link for a program that will erase and setup a clean Hard Drive.

Killdisk.

There is help on that page if you need some answers and you have us here in the forum.
