Can T40 support Dothan?

#1 Post by Tekken » Fri Sep 18, 2009 12:23 am

T40 original has Banias 400mhz socket 478 right? Dothan has 479 pin, so i guess it can't fit or may Im wrong? What chipset T40 and T41 have? T42 support Dothan 400mhz for sure.

The T40/41/42 use 479-pin Banias CPUs, and can take Dothans as well, as long as all are the models with 400MHz FSB.
These are the proper Dothans: Intel Pentium M 715, 725, 735, 745, 755 and 765

Searching the forum will reveal quite a bit of discussion regarding these upgrades.

You should ensure your BIOS and EC are up to date before an upgrade.

This thread notes that some of the 400MHz Dothan Pentium M's are not supported in T4x machines --> http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=32165

I have also come across one Pentium M 735 SL7EP that would not work at the correct speed in a T4x but would in an R5x, I have no idea why. I've had over a dozen SL7EP's that work as they should and that was the CPU model used in tens of thousands of T42's.
