I think I have the GPU problem on my T42, but I'm not sure

My symptoms are different than what I've read about the GPU solder problem, but applying pressure around the GPU does seem to fix the issue. I don't want to attempt a reflow if this isn't the actual problem, so I'm looking for some help.

My problem is that horizontal lines of pixels seem to jump left and right, kind of like static. Sometimes it's the whole screen and sometimes it's just some of the horizontal pixel arrays. If I apply torsion to the chassis or press down around the middle mouse button, the problem will stop. Sometimes when I release pressure the display is ok, and sometimes it goes back to doing the same problem. I took a (low quality) video that you can see at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFWD0D3ruu8, and another video that shows some better detail at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIpgbrH-CFU.

Is this the infamous GPU solder problem?

Edit:
I forgot to mention that external monitors have no issues with their display. If this was in fact a GPU problem, then I would think it would affect external displays too. Any ideas?

Remove the keyboard (leaving it's cables connected) and apply pressure directly to the GPU. If that corrects anything it's a loose GPU issue. The symptoms are irrelevant.

That is exactly what my T41 started doing a while back. It is a GPU soldering problem - it is more like the sync connections for the LCD are loose and not connecting properly. I got a perfect picture on the external display but on the Thinkpad LCD, I got a picture exactly the same as you have in the videos. I could make it stop by doing exactly the things you describe. And it would start up again in exactly the same way you describe.

I reflowed the graphics chip and it all went away, and now the T41 works with no problems.
