Lucent modem causes crashes

#1 Post by valley_hawk » Fri Feb 11, 2005 1:00 pm

In post: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=7847 i wrongly believed it to be a cpu overheat problem, however it is a problem that only occurs when the lucent modem (8.22) drivers are installed for the modem. I need the modem to work for email when i'm away from home.

Ethernet is fine. it's a Intel PRO/100 SP combo card and w2k. I'm about to reseat the pci card, but other than that i'm out of ideas. furthermore the event logs are showing issues with dcom, dns client tcp/ip netbios, irda protocol computer browser etc... all services failing to start. this only happens when the modem is installed. I can post an event log if reqd.

could this be a resource conflict, the video, ether, and modem are all the same irq, but device manager shows no conflicts. if i was to manually assign irq in the bios is it pci slot a/b/c for the mini pci?

Any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks all

I had a similar issue once. It is very rare but the modem needed to be replaced. The MiniPCI Intel Combo card goes for $15.

I do not know for sure if that is the problem or not... But... Assuming all of the drivers are installed correctly I'd replace the modem.
